Optional plug-in: escort quest event notifier

I know this is a bit of a departure from raid oriented stuff, but it just occured to me that there is something that would make questing with low-level alts a lot better.

We've all done it, been running an escort quest with some sort of "catch" (for instance, the one in Ungoro Crater where the NPC keeps fainting and you have to revive him with water from his canteen.) You can't see him because he insists on tagging along behind you instead of running ahead, and then you get distracted and don't notice the dialogue in your chat window that announces he's fainting until you've moved so far away from him that you get the "quest failed" gong sound. Another problematic quest in this vein is the escort in Ashenvale of the druid who keeps falling asleep until you blow his horn at him. Or the night elf girl in Feralas that needs to be escorted back to a rock giant, but keeps getting distracted and wandering away until you blow a whistle.

I would love to see something like the event alerts in DBM that notifies you with a big warning message on the screen when the alert text for fainting/falling asleep/wandering away happens, taking it out of the chat window and putting it in big letters in the middle of the screen to make it more noticeable...preferably with some sort of warning sound as well. For that matter, an alert when your escort NPC gets attacked might not be a bad idea either.

I was thinking this might be a neat optional plug-in for DBM, perhaps.

It should be quite easy to write something like this with Deadly Boss Mods. However, we currently do not have the time (and need) to create such a "boss mod".

If I had any addon writing skills, I'd take a stab it it myself, but I don't have the first clue how to writer WoW addons. The XML of EQ/EQ2 addons is about as sophisticated as I get.

I'm actually a fairly decent at "monkey see, monkey do" mimicking of code once I see it, so I might read up on Lua and take a look at code for similar types of addons (perhaps one of the DBM modules) and see if I can cobble something together. Though DMB is a bit more complicated for the basic sort of sample I'd need.
