Would anyone care to explain this one to me?

***Notice of Account Closure***

Account Name: XXXXXXXXXXXX
Offense: Use of Third Party Automation Software
Software: Deadly Boss Mods

This account has been found to have employed third party software designed to automate many aspects of the World of Warcraft game play experience. Such software runs contrary to the essence of World of Warcraft and provides an advantage over other players. In addition, use of this software can lead to exploitation and destabilization of the World of Warcraft server economy. As such, this account has been closed and will not be reopened under any circumstances. The recurring subscription on the account has been disabled to prevent further charges.

Please review the World of Warcraft Terms of Use at http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/legal/termsofuse.html, which you accepted when you installed World of Warcraft and established the account(s). Section 2, Paragraph C details the limitations of game play modifications and use of any third-party or “packet sniffing” software. In addition, Section 3, Paragraph C, parts iii and iv restrict the use of any hack, scripting or macroing software which obtains information from World of Warcraft to gain a competitive advantage over other players.

Any disputes or questions concerning this account action can only be addressed by the World of Warcraft Account Administration department. To learn more about how Account Administration is able to assist you, please visit us at http://www.blizzard.com/support/wowaa/.

Thank you in advance for your understanding in this matter and respecting our position and all statutes within the World of Warcraft Terms of Use.

this is quite strange since DBM is no "Third Party Automation Software" and Blizzard does not ban ppl. for using an addon (they disable the stuff they don't like, see decursive etc.)

As Basket already posted: every big raiding guild uses boss mods since years...and I don't know anyone (expect you oO) who got banned for using an _AddOn_

I found a quite good blue post in this thread on the official forums:

Quoted from ""Slouken""

While we've done our best not to penalize people who use the scripting interface, even in ways that aren't intended, it's conceivable that at some point someone will find a way to use them that is against the terms of use (e.g. is hurting other people's play experience), and is something we can't disable. In that case it's possible that we might warn people that using the AddOn is against the terms of use, and if they continue to do so, some action would be taken.

If you haven't been explicitly warned by a GM, or seen an official Blizzard response about an AddOn or UI modification, then don't worry about it.

So this mail seems to be an mistake, you should contact WoWAccountAdmin@Blizzard.com

It wasn't me who got the e-mail. A guildie of mine has a friend who claims this happened to him, and the e-mail text is taken from his forum. I only posted it here to ask from the source since my guild requires DBM for all members, and, as you say, many other guilds do as well.

Another guildie of mine who seems to know what's what has a theory that the person who was banned was using a botting program and was calling it "Deadly Boss Mods" as a disguise. Regardless, I'd be in contact with Blizz and ask about it just to make sure.
